Sponsor has to live in Canada ?... Advice??

So my question is do I have to live in Canada to sponcer my wife?

I'm a Canadian citizen I'm currently sponsoring my wife via inland application we are thinking about canceling the application and doing Outland . Me and my wife do not want to be a part during the process so we were wondering if I could move to her home country while our Outland application is being processed.


Anyone got any advice ?

Yes, a Canadian citizen can sponsor a spouse while living outside Canada. If the average timelines in her country are very long, and you will be in her country the whole time, you will have to provide proof that you will be returning to Canada.

If u r a Canadian citizen living exclusively outside Canada, you may still be eligible to sponsor.

first check the time frame for her visa office who would process the outland application....some could be slower than an inland...if u started like that why would u withdraw the file?

second, she could stay in Canada with visit visas while the application is in process outland....of course if she is not from visa-exempt country, her visit visa application has high chance to be rejected...

if u have to move outside Canada while waiting for her outland, just show that u kept ties with Canada (tax returns, home rental/ownership, bank accounts, family in Canada support) and u'll be able to finance both when she is granted PR (a job offer would be the best!)

if u r on visiting visa i don't think Canada sees u as non-resident or living outside Canada permanently; i suppose ur permanent address is still the one in Canada....but it's better to show that u live together so i would put the residential address in China; for mailing address i guess it depends on u....if no one lives at ur Canadian address than it's better to put ur Chinese one; otherwise, u would get the mail faster if u put the Canadian address.... i would like to have more info abt this question too

If you are planning to be going in and out of China visiting her - maybe for a month at a time, then two months back in Canada, then another visit, and so on - then state your Canadian address as your address, and include evidence of all these visits as part of the proof your relationship is genuine.
But I got the impression you were planning on staying in China for the whole time it takes to process the visa - which for Hong Kong can be a long time - so even if you are on a tourist visa, if you are actually living there, put your Chinese address as your residential address. For one thing, actually living together is good evidence that the relationship is genuine, so you want to be sure that you can prove you are living together.
For the mailing address, use the address where you want to receive mail. If your Canadian address is your parents' house, they can get your mail from CIC for you, and then forward it to you, scan and email it, or tell you right away what it is over the phone. You could also use your Chinese address if the mail in the area you live in is reliable - where I lived in China only about one out of every three letters mailed to me actually got to me; the rest vanished.
