Hi everyone,

I am asking this question for a friend who is not net-savvy and not a member here. He is thinking of sponsoring his wife. She is, however, much older than him, 16 years to be exact. Will this hinder or delay their sponsorship process? Has anyone had any experience with sponsoring an older spouse? This is is not marriage of convenience, they're a real couple in love who just don't care about the age difference, they have traveled together several times , they have wedding photos etc.

Thanks

My wife is older than I by several years and she is my sponsor. We have been married 8 years and she didn't have any issues becoming my sponsor. As long as the sponsor can demonstrate financial stability and support for the applicant, along with all the required info, I don't think there should be a problem, but double-check with your immigration office.

Hope this helps

There is 10 years between me and my hubby, we have been married 12 years now. I cant see if being a problem as long as you can show its a genuine relationship.

it's not really abt the sponsor; it's abt proving ur relationship is genuine....it all depends from which country his wife is and how common-uncommon is a relationship like this in their culture

It does not cause any problem for us.  My husband is 20 years younger than me.  I am his sponsor.  The visa office in Morocco contacted him at the end of June to ask him several questions (they received our file end of March).  My husband asked them if there was a problem with our file.  They said no.  Then, he told them I was coming in a few days to spend my vacation with him.  They told him that I might be able to return to Canada with him.  And they asked him to deliver more pictures of us, more emails of us, which he did.  So we are hopeful.... as long as the relationship is genuine!

Age for sponsorship is rarely an issue. It is proving it is a genuine relationship for perminant residence that is harder and where age can become an issue. But I personally know a woman that is 17 years older and her husband is here now. As well there are others...so as long as you have the proof that it is a real relationship and not just for a visa to Canada then it is not going to affect your process.

I am 28 years older than my wife, we only fill up the questionarie, answeer it to our best, honestly and truly (very important), as proof, e-mails, pics, bank transfers, apartment lease (in both names), our son birth certificate and baptism pics, etc.
