So here it is in a nutshell...the rest of us must wait and slog through the process but if you have fame and some money the process goes oh that much faster for you!! Anyone remember Randy Quaid and his wife coming into Canada convinced there were "Star Whackers" out to get them?

Well all is being streamlined for them EVEN THOUGH they have pending charges in the US. Apparently their worker in Canada reviewed the case and deemed in inconsequential. Funny the US is trying to figure out how to get them back to answer for their crimes. Randy is even WORKING in Canada. That's right!! He came in on a work visa, so he can work while he waits and he has not even made it to 1st stage status.

His wife is now a citizen (yup, just like that) because her father was Canadian and she is now sponsoring Randy. Although they are running a refugee claim (you know, just in case).

REFUGEE?! This sickens me when there are people in places that are truly in harm's way and they are regularily denied!! I am usually a very positive person but this set even me back on my heels a bit.

Here is the first article when they first arrived in October 2010:

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/story/2010/10/22/bc-randy-quaid-vancouver-arrest.html

Here is one closely following the first (best part is at the end when they say CBSA will likely get the pair sent back to the States for 2 reasons: 1) They face FELONY charges in the US and 2) They LIED at the border! And they say the CBSA rarely loses)

http://www2.macleans.ca/2010/10/29/asylum-indeed/

And here is the recent one:

http://entertainment.ca.msn.com/celebs/article.aspx?cp-documentid=27781273

Guess the CBSA CAN lose.

and I'm sure if you google Randy Quaid you will see the back articles regarding this.

This whole thing sickens me not just for myself but for EVERYONE that is waiting and waiting, their fate undecided, some without their loved ones. And then these 2 come along. do everything backwards and get what they want! If any of us "Regular" people tried that there would have been denial and deportation in short order.

So disheartening. Angry

If she truly is a citizen, she has every right to be in Canada.  As for sponsoring her husband for PR, criminal activity is not going to help but there are things that make you inadmissible and there are other things that don't.

As for the bogus refugee claim, there are plenty of people who make them and many who get away with it.  It has even happened a few times on this forum that people have come to ask when after their refugee claim can they go back to visit, that is to the country they are supposedly fleeing from.

As Leon points out, if she is a Citizen she has a right to be in Canada, she can also apply to sponsor her husband.

Note that he has not been granted PR, yet.
