Hello All,
I am new this forum and I have very little knowledge on the Canada Immigration.

I am software engineer working in US for the past 5 years, I see that software engineer position is not listed in the 29 occupations.

I have the following questions

1. Am I eligible for PR program?
2. If I am not eligible for PR, can I apply for a work permit (assuming I got a job offer)? After working in Canada for few months, I will be eligible for PR program?
3. How easy to get a work permit?
4. Are there any special programs for the H1 visa holder working in US?

Please advise.

Thanks in advance.

Also check your eligibility under Quebec Skilled Program.

Hi Arcticmaple. The Alberta H1-B Program was scrapped suddenly and unceremoniously, which prompted even Attorney Cohen to file Class-Action Lawsuits against the Government of Alberta for scores of his clients. The AINP is currently not accepting applications under the AINP U.S. Visa Holder Category. Applications postmarked after August 23, 2010 will be returned.

HAVING SAID THAT, THESE ARE YOUR OPTIONS:

1. You can apply for Immigration with an Arranged Employment Opinion
2. You can apply under Quebec Skilled Immigration Program if you know French
3. You can apply under any of the business classes
4. You can work in Canada for Two Years and apply under the Canadian Experience Class.

However, in Ontario, it is now next to impossible to get your LMO approved for a Work Permit. You can try to get a Work Permit in other provinces.

Good Luck.

Thanks for your responses.

So, I see I don't have any good options except Option 4.

4. You can work in Canada for Two Years and apply under the Canadian Experience Class.

Actually how this option works, first I need to apply for work permit? after 2 years can I apply under Canadian Experience Class?

Please advise.

Thanks is advance.

Yes that is correct. To apply for a Work Permit, you will need an LMO from an employer in Canada.

Simon, can you please guide me?
I have applied for PR, and my status is 'In Process', I applied for few jobs in Canada through job site, but did not get much response as I am not yet authorized to work in Canada (do not have work permit). I got very few calls and first question use to be if I am eligible to work in Canada.
Currently, I am working in USA since last 6+ years, prior to that I worked in India for 5 years.
Can you please share few tips how to get job or job offer from Canada without having work permit at the moment?
Thanks.

I am talking about canada not USA. I know they operate in USA but these are big names in canada as well.

I have recently turned down an excellent job offer via one of these companies in canada because i intend to work with my AEO
employer.

And about how did i find a job frm USA - my employer who got me AEO is a private company and i emailed him through his website and offered him very low rate and commitment of two years.
