lol yes Suki I would like to know that too! You are NOT eligible to sponsor while recieving welfare unless it is disability. I also think they would definetly question why you have 10k saved on welfare when you are not allowed to have that much in assets while recieving assistance, and might open you up to being reported for welfare fraud. Just a heads up.

When you are recieving benefits, you are only allowed to leave the province for 7 days. But maybe it is disability, and I dont know much about the rules for those kind of benefits, so I cannot speak to that.

Let's not forget that because Social Assistance is a provincially regulated program, rules around do's and don't's vary from province to province. I would like to know how you managed to save 10K though. My partner and I are both working and it's next to impossible for us to save that much...! What's your secret?

To the OP I would call CIC again and reclarify to ensure you do indeed qualify as the rules cleary say disablity because if social assistance could have been used as a top up more ppl would be on it

when ur on welfare n u didnt work but u have a disability thy approve you fr severe limited capacity for employment on welfare section an thy add u some types of more benefits n transportation as well if u cant drive or doctor recomends fr transportation fr special transport thy pay you for that too an being on welfare on disability too i can apply too for an immigration loan for transportation for my husband and son immediately when thy arrive my husband being the principal applicant will strt paying slowly when he starts workin or b4 i will help with the payment since will be under my care.with the flight will sign a paper fr agrreing to pay upon arrival n thy will book him a flight too.un can ask fr an immigration loan so long as u dont have any debt with them fr transpôrtation not sure with everybodies case.

@ shastaz, I am most certain everyone deserves to be happy, but it seems you are very dependant on government money and services, for which I pay taxes for. I also have a son with a disability, and is in a special program, and I am not entitled to any benefits for him, I also have a child who had a stroke at the age of 2 and also has continuing special health problems, and I also dont recieve any benefits, and I am low income enough to qualify for housing, however I choose to have my family live in a slightly better environment, plus I dont need the government poking around in my business. I have never seen ppl with legitimate benefits surviving alone on assistance able to save that much money unless they were milking and playing the system. I dont mean to offend you, but I work extremely hard, and have had to struggle especially with trying to sponsor my husband, without the help of any free money. I think it is a bit unfair. I am only voicing my opinion since you put all your business out there.
