Just a small, but important, detail I wanted to share with anyone who is importing (or who has imported) a car to Québec: I recently was made aware of the fact that it is illegal to keep an old front license plate (car registration plate) on your car when you import it to and register it in Québec. I had not removed my former plate from the front (I came from a place that uses both front and back plates) because Québec only uses a black plate, and I didn't know that it was forbidden to have anything that looks like a valid plate on your car (whether that non-Québec plate is expired or not, from another country, antique, or whatever).

The ticket for this is very expensive, and it was quite a shock since we didn't know about the registration rule (and even people from here seem generally unaware of this rule.) When I imported and registered the car this summer, I was not given any sort of rule manual or link to an online guide for the rules about car registration. So...I am just putting this out there in hopes of sharing this info with anyone else who might come from another country/state- or perhaps even another Canadian province- that uses front plates and might not realize they have to remove them since Québec only uses the back registration plates.
