Skilled Worker? Economic Class? NOC 0213?

Hello all,

Couple of questions, which for me, are quite unclear:

1.
I was planning to apply under the Skilled Worker Class, but somebody told me that on the main form, there is the option for the Economic Class and that I should choose. So, which one do I tick? Federal Skilled Worker? Or Economic Class? Or both?

What are the implications?

2.
We currently have a 15-month old baby, and we are expecting another one sometime May 2010. I suppose I can already file the application now and add the baby later, but the question is: How difficult is it to add a new family member to an existing application?

3.
I have been working as a Solutions Architect, Security Solutions Specialist etc. in the telecommunications industry. I suppose this would still come under the 0213?

Hello!

Yes, I have had the "responsibilities" as listed in the NOC without the official titles. I have not had the title "Manager" ever, and come to think of it, not even my managers in the past seven years have had it.

But taking a look at the example duties, such as:

• Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the operations of information systems and electronic data processing (EDP) departments and companies
  Develop and implement policies and procedures for electronic data processing and computer systems operations and development
  Meet with clients to discuss system requirements, specifications, costs and timelines

As an architect, these functions are quite integral to my work.

Can I still apply?

I worked as computer networks manager and systems administrator, another is 4years IT Assistant, another means currently working as Computer networks and IT Advisor, from my 11years job role 8years dueties is match with NOC 0213,  complete title is match and half NOC 0213 dueties also matched.

There are two types of managers:
1. Manager/Technician/Engineer - managing networks, computers, machines, equipment. In an essence it is an engineer or a technician.
2. Manager/Director - managing people, other engineers or technicians.

You can see there is a fundamental difference.
0213 - is number 2 type of manager. Read the rest of the duties:
- Assemble and manage teams of information systems personnel to design, develop, implement, operate and administer computer and telecommunications software, networks and information systems
- Control the budget and expenditures of the department, company or project
- Recruit and supervise computer analysts, engineers, programmers, technicians and other personnel and oversee their professional development and training.

Good point... Sound like more senior role.
Don't know why they want Managers??? You don't really see Management opportunities these days.... I might be missing something?

network managers are manage tech support team and even they recruite new tech team, manage hardware software expenses etc. network managers job skills are some technicaly assist to all tech team.

please check it and possible to I can make correction with my employer. I manage lots of stuffs but confused in text of NOC0213.

Do you have a cost center, manage budget.... How many direct reports? Are you responsible for yearly evaluations/appraisals?

yes but not mentioned in my experience letter. this is the only experience letter, even I have educational center training experience but its not my basic job they used me as Sr.faculty for 5hours a day job. main role is network manager for company.

slav--- Leadership make a huge difference... Question was, Why Canada only requires Manager/Leaders not technical folks.... Leadership positions are far and few, usually most companies promote internal staff to lead/manage because the person is familiar with company's culture, politics and processes.

You see, out all the duties I indicated those for 0213. The rest are those of technician.
Your employer went big deal to describe duties of a technician. And so short to mention managerial part.
It would be difficult for immigration officer to justify from such a letter your application based on 0213.
You might try to ask to rewrite the letter mention duties to move the emphasis more to managerial description.

To commonwealth:
Honestly, I don't know why Canadian immigration authorities left only 0213 and cut all IT technicians.
But, I may guess that they had a good reason for that. It could be somewhere next to the reason of why the Canada has such FSW, and USA have something else.

Manage IT department resources and companies client resources, control all activities of IT department resources.
Recruite IT network tecnician staff when company needs more staff for IT department.
I hope that will be enough now..
