Dear Forum,

I would be grateful for some advice. I received a job offer for a research position for one year from a reputable university in Canada, there maybe scope for extension but for now it is for 12 months only. My occupation falls within the 29 eligible occupations. I know if applicants who have a validated job offer from a Canadian employer will not be affected by the caps; but is that for permanent job offers only or can limited term contracts count as well? If I can apply through this job offer, will I have to show proof of funding as in personal savings etc.?

Thank you.

Congratulations for your Job offer.
1. The job offer is not "Permanent" in nature. If the funding for research shrinks, then you may be in trouble. I think you are being employed through Temporary Foreign Worker Category.
2. You can apply for PR with the job offer, but you will have to retain this job till you get your PR. Moreover, you have to be employed in Canada for atleast one year to be able to apply through your employer. But since you say that you fall under the current MI list, my suggestion will be to apply for PR independent of the job offer.
3. As you will have a Canadian job, you are exempt to show POF,although you will have to provide information regarding your salary and reference letter/pay stubs from your employer confirming the same.
