Singapore-Canada Free Trade

My friend from Victoria,BC is currently living/working in Singapore for about a year. I am from Singapore and I've visited BC and stayed there for almost 2 years but without a job since it is so hard to get a job in BC. I have just got back from BC (due to failure of getting a job) like a month ago and I am trying to put up resumes to agencies in the whole of BC. If my friend can work in Singapore easily why can't I work in Canada?

How is this fair? What is free trade agreement?
