As of yesterday my wife's ECAS shows her address now. Also, "Medical Results Have Been Received" has now been added. Been in process for over 3 months now. Hopefully not much longer until PPR. After seeing how people have had to wait even longer to get their passports back from Singapore lately, we are really debating whether or not we should go to Singapore and submit the passport in person despite how much the trip would cost. I guess we should only start to worry about that once we do get the actual request though.

Is going to Singapore to submit the passport always an option for everyone? If it is I will definitely be going that route when our visa is approved in about 1-3 years from now. It's not that expensive to fly there from Bangkok and stay for a couple of nights.

shiny

I'm still looking for the description of each sections of that Bill C38
I'll post the relative clauses of that once I get hold of them

This bill is surely the sign of a looming austerity in Canada. it is clear that people will not be getting the crucial stuffs in coming days and aspirant applicants would no longer consider Canada as a heaven for Immigrants.
I certainly am not sure now that whether or not they are gonna return '1st time to be landing' applicants ??

Bill C38
it contains major changes across the spectrum of federal
responsibility, including environmental protection, Employment Insurance, border security,
immigration, pensions, national parks, foreign aid and other programs.

It's great that you have some update in ECAS. Cheesy I wish both of us would get PPR very soon.

Guys here is where I am at, I have spoken to DHL and FedEx, Dhaka. DHL don't provide prepaid service and both DHL & FedEx have concerns about how BD custom will deal with passport carried by them. It appears that BD customs don't like the idea of these courier companies carrying passport to personal addresses. So I would really like to have someone's experience on this matter, who had already used their service to get passport(s) from CHC-Singapore office. Thanks.

I have sent my passport with other documents to Canadian High Commission in Singapore by FedEx. I had to collect a forwarding/authorization letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bangladesh and had to give FedEx that letter for custom clearance purpose. Otherwise they would not take my passport for carrying.

But, I did not receive my passport back from CHC, Singapore yet. I did not send them return envelope from FedEx because they don't have one Sad FedEx has given me an account number and told me that if I give this account number to the CHC, Singapore, then CHC will be able to send my passport (with other documents) via FedEx to me and I will have to pay the shipping charge on receipt of my package from FedEx in Bangladesh.

This is all that I know.
This is really a very nice group that would help lots of anxious people waiting for getting their visa !

Yes I got that standard e-mail from them yesterday. Now have to figure out how to get the passport, I am going to stick with registered I think, using commercial courier is too much hastle I guess, and not everyone has people in singapore to hand pick the passport. Even if I had someone they would have to send the passport to BD by some means, goes back to the same court.

I think, I am in an almost similar situation like you. I have sent my passport for visa issuance purpose to CHC, SIngapore by FedEx. I have done my re-medical on 9th May and sent my passport on 22nd May'2012. But, I did not receive any email from them yet.

It seems like they send that standard email to everyone who are in this situation, right?

After how many days of your passport sending did you get that email of your visa confirmation? could you please tell me?

I think, registered mail takes a bit longer. I am trying to figure out how can I use FedEx to carry my passport back to me. Any suggestion would be well appreciated.

Best Regards,

mzr have you decided to go with registered mail, have you received your passport yet? How reliable you think would be the registered mail? Thanks.

Please let me know what should I do now. Should I go for the FedEx or should I stick with registered mail option?
I am totally in a fix now Sad

I have taken an authorization letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bangladesh when I sent my passport via FedEx and also attached a photo copy of that authorization letter to the CHC, Singapore along with other documents and passport.

Now, I don't understand whether that will work for custom clearance purpose while my passport will be returning to me.

Please help me in this regards.

I also did not get any email like you yet. Infact I never got any email from CHC. I always just got mail (registered letter) from them.

Thanks and Best Regards,

My wife just redid her medical 1 week after you did. I see that you sent your passport already as well. Did you get the request to redo medical along with a passport request? They both came in regular mail? Also, what is your timeline?

Yes, I got the request to submit passport along with redo medical test and re submission of police clearance certificate.

No, all the letter came to me as registered mail.

Time Line :

Application Received : December 8, 2010
Started Processing : February 5, 2012
Passport Request with re-medical : April 13, 2012 (I got the letter on May 7 , 2012)
Submitted Passport via FedEx : 22 May, 2012

May I know your time line? How are you planning to send/receive your passports from/to Singapore?

Do you know how to send a pre paid envelope to Singapore CIC?

I still did not receive any email from them. I saw in this group that some people got emails after submitting their passports.

Hope it helps.

Feel free to ask any question if you need.

I actually agree with jnathan on the matter of FedEX/DHL/UPS coming under fire by the custom authorities. There is a LAW in place for sending/receiving passports which is to collect the proper authorization from Home/Foreign Ministry. As I currently work in one of the companies listed here, I must request you to bring the passports by hand (through a family contact/friend). FedEX/DHL will not guarantee the "safe" import of passports as its against the law - just as it is to send them out of the country without proper authorization papers attached, it is a costly risk you are taking when using such express companies.

Regards

Hello mzr,

I have sent my passport by FedEx with a authorization letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and my passport is delivered to Singapore CHC office within 2 days (I checked the status: Delivered).

Do you think it may create any problem if I want my passport back by FedEx again? One FedEx employee told me that, custom checking is done when passport is going out from Bangladesh to abroad but in case of coming from abroad to Bangladesh is not a problem, is this true? or, do you know something about this? Then, please share your experience.

Infact, I don't have any relative/friend who is living in Singapore.

Or, do I need a new authorization from the Foreign Ministry for my passport returning from Singapore to BD ?

Best Regards.

Hi jnathan,

Thanks for your reply.

But, how could I be so sure that CHC will send my passport back through FedEx? Because, I did not provide any return envelop. I just gave a FedEx account number and requested them to send my documents through FedEx. And, when I will receive my document package, I will pay the charge here in Bangladesh.

But, in CIC website, it is written that, if any proof of payment for the return envelop is not provided to CHC, then they will send passport by Registered mail. That is why I am concerned, and seeking suggestion from you guys that what should I do now.

Best Regards.

Registered Post is reliable in Bangladesh. Always got within 4-5 days after issuing the letter. Even CHC-S send my medical request to the wrong address, the postman tried his best and finds me out to deliver the letter. So, i trust them now.

If really need to use courier, i think the FedEx have a "Prepaid Return Stamp" thing to use (i found on their website) and i assume anything comes from an embassy to Bangladesh would not be hold in customs.
