I landed and got my SIN No. one month ago  but I have not got my SIN card yet.

Is such a delay normal?

How long a delay is common in getting the SIN card?

It has been one month for me.

I called the Service Canada call center but could not get thru to a person.

hi coolbreeze,

                              I thought it might be useful for you.
Do I require a Permanent Resident Card if I'm returning to Canada by car?
No matter how you travel back to Canada, all permanent residents entering Canada must satisfy the border services officer that they have valid permanent resident status. A valid permanent resident card is the best proof of your status.

If you do not present your card when you return to Canada, you may be asked to show one of the following documents:

a completed Confirmation of Permanent Residence form;
the original Record of Landing (if it is dated 1973 or later);
a passport stamped with the date you were granted permanent residence (if your Record of Landing is dated 1972 or earlier);
a certified true copy of a Record of Landing document issued by CIC National Headquarters; or
a letter issued by CIC National Headquarters attesting to your permanent resident status.
The border services officer may also need to confirm your permanent resident status by asking you questions and checking our information systems.
this question is from FAQs in this link.http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/faq/pr-card/index.asp

thanks a lot,  anilch.

I got your PM also. It is really nice to know I can enter canada by car without the PR card.

Visit the center.

I am not in canada. If I wait more, will the SIN Card eventually come on its own at the canadian address I gave?

It should do so, unless it is lost Sad

u will get them at the given address either u r around or not. But in any case, these cards are not important but the number only. U need to memorize the number by any means. Nobody will ever ask or require to see card but number only. U will anyway be asked to keep cards in a safer place and carry number only with you all the time

Thanks. Yes, I know that . But I am wondering why it has not arrived yet.
What if it is lost in mail and fallen into wrong hands?

Means trouble. SIN is a very delicate issue. If used else where, database will be built in your name...though not easy but probability is there.

Hope u have contacted the authority by now

I called SIN people and they said they had sent the card. But it never reached me. I think it got lost in the mail.
I am out of canada. Once I return, I will order a new one.

I think you should call the canada service center helpline. You can find its no. on CIC website.
