I was planning on landing soon and I was wondering, if the US government DOES shut down, will that effect border crossings?  I want to drive down to the US when I land and spend a few days in the US and come back home and land when I do.  But if there is a government shut down would I be able to do that?

I heard on the news that National Security will still be working , so I'm sure they will still guard the borders, maybe someone else with more knowledge can clarify this.

Will it affect processing of applications in process or are those Canadian workers down in Buffalo?

It is possible, but I doubt that anyone knows for sure yet.

CBC News, is saying that everyone should be fine to cross the border.
Just don't go to Federal parks, museums, etc. they said.

How reliable they are not sure but it is the first I have heard addressed about the situation this morning.
Hope it helps assure you some.  Wink

They may actually live in Buffalo.

I'd be worried about two things: the FBI might not process background checks, and the State Department will not process non-emergency passports.

CIC will make sure they get to work.  Taxi!

Yep, those are real concerns about the FBI and State department.  But the staff at the Canadian embassies and consulates will still be working.
