My cousin lives in Alberta and presently holding a working visa in the food service industry. She started her application for permanent residency which included her husband and one son who are living outside Canada. Does she need to show the government that she has money in the bank? I was told they require $18, 000 dollars and proof of certain assets. Anybody who can enlighten me with this?  Thanks in advance.

both host and guest have to show their assets and financial status for visitor visa applications.  But in your cousin's case, it  can be difficult because visa officers might think the husband and son want to stay in Canada permanently.
