I just got my visa yesterday and headed off to join my family in Toronto November 19th.

In the notice accompanying my visa and COPR, it says that I can bring items over tax free. Most of my stuff is already over with my family and but I plan on shipping a couple of boxes of things via courier. In the past when I shipped items to my folks via UPS or FedEx always made me pay for taxes upon receipt. How do I avoid paying these taxes? Is there a tax-exempt code I can enter?

Also can I ship my "Goods to Follow" in multiple shipments as long as I list them at the airport when I land?

Don't think you can use courier services to ship "personal effects" as duty-free goods-to-follow.  If you don't have enough to use an international mover, I would suggest bringing it with you as extra baggage.  If you use a shipping/freight service, it would be best to come in one shipment - you really don't want to go through the clearing procedures more than once :)

Thanks for the info. I've managed to reduce all my worldly possessions to just 3 bags and paying the excess baggage fee, still seems to be cheaper than courier anyway.
