Just to keep some other folks updated on November applicant timelines, I received my AOR via email this afternoon. Application arrived at Buffalo on 04 nov 2011 and my AOR states that it is being transferred to the CPP-O. I think this means mine should get processed faster? But I don't think that means its an automatic yes, right? Anyone have any info on full processing times for CEC applications going through the CPP-O office?

CPP-Ottawa has been very fast so far, considering the alternative. Again, each case is unique and depending on several factors(e.g. verification of information, etc) there could be delays. There is no such thing as an automatic yes when it comes to immigration, but submitting a great application certainly increases the chances of a positive outcome.

It's really a waiting game.  There is someone on this forum whose application was received by Buffalo the same day as mine.  They got PR sometime in December... and I just got my AOR.  It is hard to tell what as CIC is so inconsistent.  Most people will have a file number by 6 months though.

what's the usual timeline for getting request for medicals? And am i correct in assuming that I shouldn't try and book an appointment for meds before i get a request? Or. now that I have an AOR, should i go ahead and book a medical examination for myself and my spouse?

PDO:  I know that there are some people who have gone ahead and booked medicals as soon as they received their file number.  I am going to wait until they request them, as getting the appointment doesn't take long, and from there it only takes a few weeks to process them and send them to CIC.  Some people usually get a med request the same day they get AOR. For some it comes a few weeks months later.  No consistency Sad

thanks for the info! i think i'll just wait. I had had a memory from somewhere that it can take a long time (months) to get an appointment, but if that's not really the case, then I guess it makes no difference.

Another odd question, My spouse and I are both applying for PR, and we have a child, who was born here in Canada while we were on TFW. I know CIC states that all dependents must get medicals, but I am assuming that since our baby is a Canadian citizen, this won't apply.

Hi pdo,

Based on my understanding a child born in Canada is only a Canadian citizen if at least one of his parents is either a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident. Am I wrong? Coz I am pretty sure I read it on the CIC website. That being said i think this law came into place a couple of years back not sure exactly when though.

Got this from CIC

Who is a Canadian citizen?

In general, you are a Canadian citizen if you were born in Canada. You are not a Canadian citizen if you were born in Canada and at the time of your birth, your parents were neither Canadian citizens nor permanent residents, and at least one parent had diplomatic status in Canada.

So I guess if parents are not citizen or PR and do not hold diplomatic status then their child is a Canadian citizen?

That's great news! Cheesy
