Hi Deepi,

1) You have to ask your employer to initiate the LMO process for you.
2) The current processing time is around 8-12 weeks.(please check the website for accurate times)
3) Once you get your Positive LMO, you have to apply for Work permit
4) You can not apply for WP from within Canada, if you are not from a Visa exempt country. You have to go to the border or your country to get it.
5) Previously, it was possible to apply for WP while your LMO application is being processed (Concurrent processing). Now the rules have changed and you have to have the POSITIVE LMO in hand when you apply for WP.
6) PR application in progress has nothing to do with Work permit. You will have to cease to work without the positive LMO and valid WP.

Other scenario:

What to do if you do not get a positive LMO by the time your WP is expiring (1 month atleast)?

1) In order to stay legally in Canada, you will have to apply for EXTENSION of STAY, atleast, 1 month before your WP expires.
2) When you apply for Extension of stay, you will be in IMPLIED status (Legal status). Current processing time for Extension of stay is 87 days. (Pl check website frequently to get the latest updates)
3) You will have to mention in this application that you would like to change status to VISITOR. You have the option to change your status to STUDENT as well, incase you can provide proof that you have enrolled yourself for school.
2) If your LMO processing is in progress then you will have to mention it in your cover letter.

If your PR comes through by the time all this is happenning then ... no worries about LMO and WP.
