Sending Original Transcripts

Hi,

My application got transferred to Detroit office.

I was requested to send the original transcripts but at same time the heading for document list also mentioned that you may send copies if interview is not requested. So I sent notarized copies of my degrees and mark sheets.

Later I got another communication from Detroit office that notarized copy is not sufficient and I have to send the Original transcripts within 60 days. They did not mention if it needs to be in university sealed envelope. I am planning to send my original degrees and marksheets as I am currently temporary worker in Canada and cannot afford to travel back to India at least within 60 days and get the original transcript from university. I also have very little contact back home to request help.

Will I get back my original degrees and mark sheets?

Hi ,

Why do u want to risk sending your degrees, in india Original trranscripts can be issued to your friend or family member.

I suggest you do this - depending on how many days u have.

1) send you friend/family memeber to your university registrar office and find out what are the formalities and how much time it will take.

2) if that is not working out, i am not sure if sending originals is a solution - only senior members can suggest on this as visa office has requested for original transcripts, i am not sure if sending originals degree/markscard is an option at all.

having said that, As far as return of originals is concerned , i have heard that mos tof the times they send originals back however i would be very worried if i ever took this chance.

For you information , i am also a temp worker in canada, i asked my frn to collect my transcripts from bangalore university and i got it within 10 days.

Thanks for the quick reply. I would have done the same thing that you told but I have really no one in my family back in India for another 6 months who can get to the university. Most of my friends have already moved to US etc etc...

So only option for me is to send the originals.

Has no one sent the originals? Seniors please help!

there is another thing which you can do.

You already have a case fiile number with you , why dont u write direcctly to detroit visa office explaining the situation and asking them if sending original markcard and degrees would be okay/

This is best , write them en email ASAP , it wont cause you any harm - explain them the typical indian university situation where you cannot apply online/nor do the university send these onsite.

If visa office replied in negative saying that originals wont work  then you have no other option but to arrange this somwhow or travel urgently to india to apply and ask some person to collect it and courier it (Pay some not so close guy some money for this - again this is worst case scenario)

Once again excellent advise from your end. But I am in a fix to travel. Currently I am working under tremendous work load and asking for going to India for at least a week in another 2-3 months will throw me out of current job over here in Canada.

I have couple of questions:

1. Is original transcript different from original marksheet?
2. Are we required to send only the highest level education transcripts or does it also include high-school / senior secondary certificates and mark sheets etc?
3. Is this request for transcript only marksheet or Certificate as well?
4. Why is sending originals risky? Is it that immigration office is required to keep the transcripts and you will never get it back?

1. Is original transcript different from original marksheet? - Transcript is nothing but a copy of ur markscars and degress, signed and sealed by univeristy registrar verifying that they are genuine

Again i suggest you to write an email to detroit visa office immediately asking if original markscard and degrees will be acceptable, i doubt if they will work as notarized copied would have worked for you in that case

I would perfectly understand their need for transcripts as in many countries you can get a fake degree and they wont be able to distinguish , by requesting transcripts they are avoiding additional headache of verifying this with university themselves.

for some poeple notarized marksheets have worked @ buffalo and other visa offices, but since in your case they didnt accept it its better to seek visa office opinion before you decide your next step.

No harm is sending orginals if they will say that it will work and they will retun them to you

I will definitely contact Detroit office on the same. But like you said that if they still dont want original marksheet and ONLY transcripts then I will have to somehow get that from my university...
