Your OHIP is valid ONLY as long as your work permit is valid. There is no implied status or grace period. You won't have to wait three months, but if your work permit takes longer to come back, you'll be without OHIP for that time.

i had the exact same issue. sent my COPR back and CIC called me to let me know it isn't a problem. they sent the same COPR back a couple of weeks later. i did my landing using the original COPR without any issues.
