Exchanging U.S. for Ontario driver's license

Agree with Bargeld! I'm going through the same thing right now where I keep being told that the state has no document nor cannot issue a later showing the date I was first licensed (our abstract doesn't show this). Without this, my insurance goes up over $1,000/year. Date when first licensed-...

Driver's abstract & Letter of Experience?

So, I had exchanged my Ohio driver's license for an Ontario one back in June. I have insurance here in Ontario and they requested a driver's abstract and letter of experience. Well, I received my abstract from Ohio but Ohio only shows the date of most recent license renewal so it is only showing...

    Driving License

So, I had exchanged my Ohio driver's license for an Ontario one. I was originally licensed when I was 16. I have insurance here in Ontario and they requested a driver's abstract and letter of experience. Well, I received my abstract from Ohio but Ohio only shows the date of most recent license...

Does anyone know what happened to IvanP? Curious to know if he's a PR yet? I'd like to wish him well! Thanks :)

Americans who have exchanged a U.S licence for Ontario licence.

I, too, am trying to obtain a document that states the first date of driver`s license issue which was way back when at 16. If you call the main office in Columbus, hopefully you can get someone via phone and they can help provide a separate but official doc to you on letterhead. You might run in...

    Ontario Car insurance discount

Just wanted to give an FYI for anyone in Ontario looking to purchase auto insurance.....I called a local agency on Friday and they gave me such amazing service! Along with the fact that, they gave me the lowest quote with full insurance and since I didn't have my driver's abstract they gave me...

After landing- obtaining ON driver's license question

Just wanted to update as I went to exchange my US driver's license for an Ontario one and it went surprisingly smooth! They needed either your COPR or PR card, current driver's license and a passport. They did not need the driver's abstract upfront in order to issue the ON license; however, they...

    Secured/Unsecured credit card

Hi Greeki, I would recommend Scotiabank. I received a credit card with both TD and Scotia and the customer service with TD is rotten. I went to Scotia (they have programs for "newcomers to Canada" and their customer service, professionalism and personal attention has been wonderful, to say the...

After landing- obtaining ON driver's license question

Thanks for all the feedback! I find it odd that they won't send it to my Canadian address either. However, I was able to find a solution. I have to sign, scan and email a signed POA to my sister. She can then go and pick it up for me and scan and email to me. I'm relieved :) Thanks for...

After landing- obtaining ON driver's license question

Hi Everyone, Wondering if anyone can help, please. I am looking to purchase a vehicle asap. I need to obtain my ON license and was told I need a 3-yr driver's abstract from Ohio in order to obtain ON license. The problem is, OH BMV will not email or fax the abstract- only mail to US address...

    a couple questions:

A VR would be good to have (as far as I know or understand this process) to help as proof of days spent in Canada. Your time spent in Canada prior to getting your PR counts as a half day towards the requirement of Citizenship. Up to a 2 year max, if I remember correctly. Just FYI. Anyway, I...

    a couple questions:

With regards to the UCI number, I had one as well from the time I was issued my first VR. However, not having found this forum and not knowing much about the process when I filled out and submitted the PR app, I did not write in my UCI when filling out the forms. I noticed only after sponsorship...

    US outland applicants' thread :)

Yeah, ours had the watermark, as well. It was a no go. Don't get me wrong.....I hope somehow they'll allow for yours to go through. That was just our experience. It infuriated me because we got the clearance from CIC, but I learned a little late that sometimes that just doesn't mean anything...

FBI Clearance letter question (US/CDN couple)

You can find the fingerprint card here on the FBI's site http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/criminal-history-summary-checks/standard-fingerprint-form-fd-258 If I were you, I'd look into taking it to the local police department to have fingerprints taken for free. Then, mail direct to the FBI...

    US outland applicants' thread :)

Third party agencies, even fbi-approved agencies, will not be acceptable for immigration purposes. It needs to come direct from the FBI. I say this because we, too, called CIC and were told they would be acceptable through an fbi-approved agency. We had to redo ours and submit direct to the FBI.

When landing in Canada do I need to claim our items eventhough...

Hey Lemondrop! We landed at the Bluewater Bridge (Port Huron), too! If you have any questions, just let me know. We landed on a Sunday and not much traffic at all. Didn't have to wait in line at the IO, either. Nice and smooth. I typed out the forms. But, while at the IO, I had to add an item...

When landing in Canada do I need to claim our items eventhough...

Hey Lemondrop! This is quite an exciting time for you! Just when you think you're done with the paperwork....there's more it lol ;) For the SIN. We went to Service Ontario and applied and got our SIN number immediately on a print out reading "temporary number". However when the card arrives it...

When landing in Canada do I need to claim our items eventhough...

Hi Lemondrop- I did not need a record of vaccinations. I am a US Citizen/visa-exempt....I'm not sure if it's different for others??? For me, I was in Canada on a visitor's record so we just "flagpoled" and arrived at the POE with my COPR and passport, along with my B4/B4a forms. It was very...

I'm praying for everyone that this will not be the case with regards to your applications!! My file was part of the backlog as a result of the Buffalo VO closing and it was a very hard time for me so I can understand how others feel. I will be praying and sending positive thoughts for everyone...
