    April 2017 - Citizenship Applicants

Hello, could the admin please update the spreadsheet for Casper (Ottawa). Got DM on Friday, Sept 15. The exam was pretty easy but only because of the countless online tests done in advance. The interview was quick - the agent checked the passport stamps, said that the security check was...

    April 2017 - Citizenship Applicants

Please could the admin update the spreadsheet for Casper - ecas was updated on Aug 24 to say that the citizenship test is scheduled for Sept 14. We didn't receive an email but were told by the CIC Helpline that we should get a letter in the mail. We're in Ottawa. Wow...all this waiting can...

    LMO & Express Entry

No, the LMIA does not provide legal working status in and of itself. You need to attach the positive LMIA to your work permit application. You can only work as long as you have a valid work permit, whether you've completed the PR process by then or not. The original poster had already found...

Applying for LMIA for your own job......

If you have enough validity on your open work permit to enter the pool, wait for an invitation to apply, PR visa to be processed and all that - then have your employer apply for the free LMIA. The only risk is that your OWP may expire before you get PR so you might have to stop working, but...

Applying for LMIA for your own job......

Dozens of people on this board alone have spoken of applying for LMIAs for positions where they're the incumbents. My guess is the employer misunderstood what he/she was told or the person he/she spoke to was very misinformed.

Applying for LMIA for your own job......

Can you elaborate a bit on this? Your employer was told he/she can't apply for an LMIA because you're already an employee? If that's what was said, it's untrue.

Previously LMIA exempt, looking at LMIA process

http://www.esdc.gc.ca/eng/jobs/foreign_workers/higher_skilled/permanent/index.shtml This is the link for LMIAs to support PR. The requirements are the same for both types of applications.

Previously LMIA exempt, looking at LMIA process

    1. Can you get an LMIA after already being in Canada with an LMIA exempt work permit? And keep your same position? Yes. The fact that you're currently working in the position has no positive or negative impact on the LMIA process. 2. If I were to get my employer to go through the LMIA...

Still confused. Have currently a job, my papers ready what next?

If you already got an LMO for your job, you most likely don't need an LMIA, as long as the same employer is offering you a permanent job now. In other words, you should be eligible for the 600 job offer points right now.

    Post doctoral fellow for EE?!

Just to be clear, postdocs are LMIA exempt for the purposes of applying for a work permit. This is intended as a facilitation measure for universities and workers. But nothing prevents the employer from applying for an LMIA, either for the worker to obtain a work permit or for PR.

    LMIA with a new job

CIC will check to see if you can do a mechanic's job (meaning: do you have the education, skills, experience). If not, your PR application would likely be refused. So just getting ANY job offer and LMIA won't help.

    Regulated Occupation

    1) Since Dentistry is a regulated occupation in Canada, is there a possibility of me being selected by a Canadian employer before I get the license to practice (which I can procure only in Canada through exams or a degree program)? It's difficult but not impossible to get a Canadian employer to...

A new company can offer LMIA

As the ESDC website says: - Employers must pay $1,000 for each position requested (e.g. $1,000 x number of positions=total payment) to cover the cost of processing a dual intent LMIA application. - The processing fee does not apply to employers choosing ONLY to support a foreign national's...

    LIMA process. Please HELP!!!

I should have clarified - that is the link for LMIA requirements for employers wishing to make permanent job offers under Express Entry. The description section specifically mentions Express Entry, and goes on to indicate the requirements for FSWP, FSTP and CEC, which all fall under Express...

Where can I get information from my LMO 15 years ago?

First try CIC: 1-888-242-2100. They should be able to give you that information. Your second option is Service Canada but they generally divulge this information to the employer, not the worker. But it doesn't hurt to try. The Employer Contact Centre is at 1-800-367-5693. Isn't it more...

How long does a LMO/LMIA stay valid

LMOs/now LMIAs are valid for six months but if you get a work permit based on an LMIA, then you generally don't need a new LMIA for Express Entry. Your work permit has to remain valid when applying for PR.

Job offer under LMIA exemption might just get drawn

Should point out it's been discussed already that both LMOs and LMIAs are valid for EE. See scenario 2: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/publications/employers/express-entry-presentation-fall2014.asp

Do experiences in the NOC A category obtained via IEC visa count towards EE ?

IEC work experience counts toward the 12 months of Canadian work experience needed for the CEC. For the purposes of meeting CEC requirements, IEC experience is just as good as PGWP experience or NAFTA experience or LMIA-based experience. For the purposes of Express Entry, you wouldn't get the...
