I am assuming that you are referring to a visitor visa extension. When I filed for my visitor visa extension last year, I just stated that my husband was paying for my upkeep/return home and included copies of his T4s. It was accepted-no questions asked.

Unfortunately, he is a Canadian PR, and he is not from a visa exempt country, so entering the US is not an option for him. That is the reason I would have to take the taxi across the bridge, and I am hoping he can meet us over there for the drive home. Any info on this? Thanks!

Because it is illegal to marry someone for the purpose of immigration. If he is not in a relationship with someone now, and you are suggesting that he go "meet someone" who can sponsor him to the US. That is a crime. It's not like USICS isn't going to find out about the deportation from Canada...
