Came across some pics....showing terrible riots in Vancouver,...Police and People fighting on the streets?
Is this all part of the current postal strike?

This is something I never heard about Canada.
I hope things get in place soon.

No It is a different story and has nothing to do with Canada Post Strike.... It is after Vancouver looses Ice hockey final with Bostan .But it is still a peaceful country and wonderful place to live.

Hahahaha Our Boston Team is great in Hockey... I seen that final match(Van-BOS) the Stanley Cup.
But Postal Strike is different story and Postal strike already started before this match.

About Postal strike in news end of march 2011 and the strike started in Canada near end of first week of june 2011 (I guess): visit this link of May 30, 2011 news : http://www.montrealgazette.com/business/Postal+workers+could+strike+this+week/4861880/story.html

Vancouverites were saddened to see the media coverage of Vancouver during the riots.  It was an example of a small group of people creating havoc.  Some of the participants are the ones who appear whenever they have the opportunity to act out, no matter what the cause or celebration.  They do NOT represent the rest of Vancouver in any way!  Did you ALSO see the volunteers who came out in the small hours and during the next day to help CLEAN UP the mess the minority left behind?  On the weekend, the Bay (department store) put on a pancake breakfast to say Thank You to the citizens of Vancouver.  Vancouver is STILL our beautiful city.

Ottawa passes "back-to-work" legislation for Canada Post

Sat, Jun 25 2011 | 8:33:11 PM | The Canadian Press

After a marathon round of discussion/s [that lasted more than 58 hours] members of the House of Commons passed legislation tonight ordering thousands of locked-out Canada Post employees back to work.

The Conservatives had said the law was necessary because the lockout was becoming a drain on the economy and hit the masses hard. MPs were supposed to go home for their summer break on Thursday but continued @ the house to pass the bill.

A Canada Post union spokesman said Thursday there are no plans for workers to defy the back-to-work law, since the penalties are so punitive. They range from $1,000 a day for rank-and-file, to $100,000 a day for the union.

I wonder if this latest action doesn't in fact further tarnish Canada's image. It's like this conservative govt is bent on taking away as many civil liberties from the work force as they possibly can; really scary IMO.......

This all was worrisome as this sort of things happening at other places seems common but in Canada, it came as a surprise!

Hi Fernandes,

Canada might not be a 'paradise', but it's quite a nice, decent, safe & a peaceful place to call our home, especially for the future generations of ours. And those 'problems' r pretty minuscule compared to the good larger picture we get here. It's definitely better than many other locales of the 'world', including our homeland [as of date].

That's why, when u said:
Whatever Iam moving to CANADA!!!!!!!!!!
U were perfectly correct... so was I & many others.

Good luck & God Speed !
