And did you also submit the pics at the nearest Service Canada office? If so, that is valuable information for anyone waiting a long time for a PR card.

Hi Toby, I submitted the photos to CIC Sydney Nova Scotia..

Why are so many photos being rejected?
Reason I ask is that I'm going to have my photo taken for this purpose on Friday with my daughter.

Hi all,
I received passport request from Buffalo. The photo requirements in the passport request mail was (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/photospecs.asp) the size of the head, from chin to crown, must be between 31 mm (1 1/4″) and 36 mm (1 7/16″).

The new spec for PR card according to http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/5445EB.asp is measure between 25 mm and 30 mm (1” and 1 1/5”) from chin to crown (top of hair).

I am in US. I plan to land ASAP I get the visa.

Does CIC, Buffalo use the photo we send with passport for PR cards or do we submit separate photographs while landing? If photo sent with passport for visa stamping is used for PR card, the photos are automatically rejected. If we have to submit separate photo while landing , then its ok.

Senior members please advise.

Sindbad, we submitted photos both to the consulate at Buffalo and the immigration counter when we landed.
Its a mystery what they do with two photos. But that does seem to be the requirement..

Friends, I must thank one and all for your considered responses, especially Xyrus and PMM.
Now it seems like this is not so much an uncommon problem.
I agree I am lucky that I am in Canada and really feel your anger, Rhetorisch.

Anyway, CIC finally sent me the red letter (for those who are wondering what that is - it is printed on red paper - and has instructions on the photo size etc.). I do need to go in person to submit the pic  Roll Eyes.

I took the new set of photos today and will submit them at the St. Claire office on Monday.
Lets hope it turns out OK.

Lord if only they could take our photos on landing and just mail off the cards  Cry.
Isn't that what happens elsewhere?

Actually they can, every Port of Entry has digital cameras for taking of PR photos.  But sad to say, when secondary inspection (Immigration), became part of CBSA, they just don't seem to want to take the photos.

head to chin size is critical.
The diagram may not be well understood.
Basically they need the measurement between "top of head" to "chin" to be a certain length.

Hm -- do I need to have additional photos to take with me when we land?
I'm still waiting on my passport / visa to be returned to me, so I'm sure there will be additional landing instructions with that, but thought I'd be prepared.

Just want to ask, where do I check if my PR card is already sent to me ? I landed February 4 and it's been 6 weeks, no PR card in the mail still. Do I just contact the call centre?

Thanks.

5-7 weeks is normal.
You may get it very soon!!
But no harm calling to check status.
Best!

We submitted 3 photos to Buffalo.  They attached one to our COPR and gave the other 2 back.  Should they have kept more for the card?
