Renting a Car on an International Driving Licence

I plan to land in Toronto this December.  Like many professionals working in the Gulf, I too will do my landing and return to work in a few weeks time.  While I am there I plan to rent out a car to move around the city. 

Can anyone tell me what I need in the from of documentation for me to be able to do this quickly and cheaply. 

I have over 12 years of driving experience here in the UAE.  So I plan to bring the following:
 

• UAE Drinving Licence
  International Driving Licence
  Letter from Licencing Section of DOT
  .
  .
  .
  

What else do I need?  a letter from the insurance co maybe?
How much will insurance cost me in Toronto?

1. There's just No problem in renting a car on IDP/IDL - I did that too, for a month+.
2. However, your insurance costs would be nearly the same as the rental charges.
3. No additional paperwork required than what u have posted (uhh yes, a local address is a must).
4. If u have a Cr. Card, they'd pre-swipe it, if u don't - then be prepared to pay an advance deposit.

Do I need letter from Transport Deptt in addition to IDL and Valid licence?
