Renewal of Study Permit way ahead of time?

Hi, I am just started a two years graduate program but my study permit is for one-year minus ten day (the time it took me to join after getting the visa). [They gave me a one year permit from the date the visa was issued and not from the date of arrival]; strange!!
I am also working as a research assistant and the university is paying me for my work. A working graduate student (RA) is eligible for provincial health coverage provided s/he is in Canada for at least a year. The provincial insurance provider is not accepting the applications of similar type, since the study permit is short of ten days from a year.
Does any one has an idea of getting an extension of the study permit right now (its still about 11 months for it to expire). The CIC website says that extension should be applied before 90 days to expiration. I would have to ask for extension any way at the end of the year. If I get an extension now, I could save some insurance payment money.
Could you please comment.
Thanks

sorry there is no way you will get an extension this far ahead of time with a date change. They will only process a new study permit from the exact date the old expires. The reason they ask you to apply 90 days in advance is because if you mail in the permit it can take up to 4 or 5 months for them to process the mailed in applications. If you apply on line you will save a huge amount of time but it will not change the date for you to take advantage of the insurance.
