Hello,

Three years ago I had a careless driving incident in the US. While this is a traffic violation in the US, it is a crime in Canada, so I became inadmissible.

I know that I can apply for rehabilitation in five years after I paid the fine. I also know that it's a long process that can last over a year, so I wonder - can I apply earlier than in five years (for example, in four years), but granted an admission after five years, or I have to apply only after five years?

I don't think that I can apply in advance, but want to be sure.

Thank you.

No you can't apply before the 5 years are up for rehabilitation.  You know that Careless driving is not a criminal offence in Canada?  Although Dangerous Driving is.  249(1) of the Criminal Code http://laws.justice.gc.ca/eng/C-46/page-6.html#anchorbo-ga:l_VIII-gb:s_249  You may wish to apply for Rehabilitation, information only see: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/rehabil.asp  Depends on you conviction, if it equates to Careless Driving, you probably aren't inadmissible.

Thank you very much for you response.

I know that I'm inadmissible, and I'm not the only one. I'd checked the forums and found the other people with exactly the same problem.

This might be because originally I was charged with DUI, then the charge was reduced to the careless driving.
