Hi

I am hoping to complete my landing formalities this July. I may have to visit the US(New York) in a few weeks after landing. I won't receive the PR card in time to do this. So basically just wanted to check the possibility of doing a US trip before obtaining the PR card. How can we re-enter Canada since the landing visa is only single entry.

Many thanks

If you are visa exempt to Canada, you will have no problem boarding a plane with your passport alone and then showing your COPR (landing documents) when you arrive in Canada in order to get in.

If you are not visa exempt, you have two options.  Either enter Canada with a private/rented car showing your COPR as you enter or if you want to fly, apply for a PR travel document at a Canadian embassy in the US.  The document will allow you to board a plane and enter.

Hi Leon,

Thanks for the prompt reply, appreciate it. Unfortunately I am not visa exempt. Therefore will have no choice but to apply for a PR travel document from NY visa office. Any idea regarding processing times in NY?

Many thanks for all the advice.

No idea about NY but I have heard that Seattle can do them in a day or two.

Await,

Here is the link for the Form.  It usually takes 2-8 days.  As soon as you you have a travel date and a fare ticket, go to the Canadian Consulate.

Hi Leon and SFD,

Will look at the possibility of re-entering Canada through a land route. Failing that will apply for a PR travel document.

Many thanks for the advice, really appreciate it.
