Hello everyone,

I just got my Permanent Resident card few days ago, and I planned to go back to my country next few months. The question is: if I want to return Canada after this homecoming trip, will there be any requirement (i.e. Visa or permission) to enter Canada?

As far as I was advised by friends, I only need PR card to re-enter Canada. If this is true, please let me know. If not, let me know what I have to do now. Thank you very much.

P.S.: The trip will last for 6 months, is there any problem for staying that long outside Canada? Thank you !

To keep PR status you must live in canada for 2 out of 5 years.
All you need to reenter is your PR card and you should have a valid passport also.

Your PR card is your permission to re-enter Canada as you are now a legal resident. You will also need your passport. Staying out of Canada for 6 months is not a problem as long as you satisfy the residency requirement that pinklady mentioned. That 2 years does not have to be continuous but it must total 2 years (730 days) in the 5 year period.
