Received Passport Request Form (CIC, London, UK) Already in Canada on WorkPermit

Hi Everyone,

After couple of years wait, We finally received request to submit our passports for Permanent resident visa to CIC in London, UK.  The issue is we are already in canada on temporary work permit which expires in 2 months.

My wife's filipino passport is with Philippine Embassy for renewal which will take approx 1 month. Once we get back my wife's passport, We have to submit our passport to CIC (London) for PR Visa which again takes 30 working days (In that case we will be without passport and valid canadian visa for atleast couple of weeks). Is that considered as Legal while your password is with CIC (London).

As I am already in canada, Is is possible that I could submit my passport locally in Immigration office for PR  Visa instead of posting them to UK.

In case I have to send my passport from Canada to UK, is it legal to do this with Indian Passport.

Please advise what is best in regards to my case.

1.  No you can't submit it to  a local CIC it has to go to London.
2.  Yes, it is legal, it is only illegal to send Indian passports in/out of India.
3.  It will be tight to get done before status runs out, so apply for an extension as a visitor, and you will have implied status, so you should have plenty of time to get your passports back and "land" before you get a response from  Vegreville

No, your extension application is by mail to Vegreville and you send copies of your passport.  If the employer extends the work permit (you need a new LMO) then that is done by mail to Vegreville.

Thanks PMM for the quick response.


Our employer already have a new LMO for us. Therfore, I guess if no passport is required for Visitor or Work permit extension, we can apply for work permit extension which will buy us some some time to receive our passport back from CIC UK.
