Re-applying for student visa?

Hi,

A friend of mine is having difficulties renewing her student visa and has not had much success in identifying her alternatives/options.  She had missed the filing deadline by a day and and thus her student application was refused.  Unfortunately, for many teens they learn their lessons the hard way, and now she has.

Her appeals were to no avail but she was able to secure a student visa as a refugee. I would appreciate if anyone could offer any options available to her for next school year.
