re- PR renewal

I am a PR since 2005 Aug. I have 570 days so far in Canada. I left Canada in June 2007 to do my residency training in the US. Now I am done with my training in 2010 June and plan to return. My PR expires in Sep 2010. 2 questions:
1. After entering Canada, when can I apply for PR renewal- after I complete my obligation of 730 days?
2. If PR expires while trying to make up the 730 days,
Is it legal to stay in the country with an expired PR?

All these 3 years I have been staying with my son who is a canadian citizen- is every day with him considered as a day of physical presence?

That is easy... just return and stay up until you have 730 days. Then you can renew. You can stay with an expired PR but you should make sure you are in the country when it is expired. As soon as you have 730 days, you can then renew. The 730 days has to be within the past 5 years from the date you apply.

1. Yes, after you complete 730 days but has to be in the last 5 years counting back from the day you apply to renew.  If you have a gap of more than 3 years when you weren't in Canada, you will not be able to use the 570 days you stayed before since when you will have your 160 days to add to the 570, some of the 570 days will not be in the previous 5 years anymore so you would be looking at applying to renew only in 2012.  Try to make it back before the 3 years are up anyway.

2. It is legal to stay in Canada with an expired PR card . There is no law that says you have to have a valid PR card.

3. Staying with a Canadian citizen spouse or parent can protect your PR, a child can not.

Can a guys who lives and work in Canada with an expired PR apply for Family Sponsorship (Wife & Kids)? am in Canada for a year now and won't get my PR renewed until I finish the required 730 days.

It is better to renew your PR card first then sponsor your family as they will require a copy of your PR card on your sponsorship application.
