Questions on IMM1249 form

Hi there,

I am helping my friend to change/extend his visa from student to visitor. He got married while on his student visa and now he is staying in Canada to remain together with his partner until the sponsorship application is finished.

Two questions on the form:

Original entry of Canada: we called CIC and they asked to put the first time my friend came to Canada which as over 20 years ago!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This doesn't make sense to me. I helped many students and friends extending their status and I always put the date of the recent visa to entry Canada. In my friends case would be August last year.

My Family members: We declared that he is married. Do we put the name of his spouse? I understand is not needed b/c the spouse is Canadian but since the check list ask for proof of marriage certificate ( if applicable) which is the case now shall we just complete the name of his spouse?

Did your friend throw his old passport,  which he used to travel to Canada?. If not the date of arrival in Canada is there.

Should include name of spouse also.
