Hello, I am a UK citizen and I was in Canada for a week back in November when I entered on my British passport

a) Immigration stamped my passport only with a date stamp when I got in but no other stamp mentioned anything about the 6 month visa exempt permit I believe UK citizen get on a visa-exempt basis, and when I left the country (Vancouver airport) nobody scanned/stamped me out. My question is ....I want to travel (holiday) around Canada in March 2012 for 6 - 12 months - will I get a new/fresh 6 months visitors permit when I arrive or will I still be entering again on that original Nov 2011 stamp/visa, ie I will have only 2 months left?

b) If the latter to (a) above, then how can I get to stay for 6+ months from March 2012?

c) How much proof of funds (ie is there a minimum $ amt) is required when I enter if I tell them I would like to travel for 6 months?

d) What is the maximum time I can stay as a UK visitor to Canada? 12 months

Much appreciated! Brendan

1.  A stamp with no date written under means you were admitted for 6 months.
2.  Your status ends when you leave, so it would be a new visitors admission when you return.    If you want to stay for longer than 6 months, you can ask on entry or apply for an extension in Canada.
3.  Count on about $1.5K a month in funds.
4.  You can stay as long as CIC keeps extending your status.
5.  If you are under 30 why don't you apply for an IEC (Working Holiday Visa) which allows you to work in Canada for year?  See: http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/united_kingdom-royaume_uni/experience_canada_experience/index.aspx?view=d
