Questions for Spousal sponsorship! (JAPAN)

Hi,

I have a few questions regarding spousal sponsorship.


1. For the person being sponsored, what exams need to be done for the medical check?

2. After the person being sponsored gets the documents for security/background check, does he/she need to have the translations done by themselves or can we just send it in? As far as I am aware one is not allowed to open the envelope once obtained...

3. How up to date does the medical, background checks have to be before we send it in? For example: If I'm going to send in the application in about 6 months, should the person being sponsored wait like a month before to get their documents? or can the medical/background check documents be obtained at any time?

1. For the person being sponsored, what exams need to be done for the medical check? -- Usually common laboratory tests of blood and urine, also x-ray of chest. It has to be done with a medical doctor authorized by CIC. You can find the list of Designated Medical Practitionners in: http://www.cic.gc.ca/dmp-md/medical.aspx

As far as I am aware one is not allowed to open the envelope once obtained... -- It can be opened and I will recommend to send a notarized translation of the certificate.

3. How up to date does the medical, background checks have to be before we send it in? For example: If I'm going to send in the application in about 6 months, should the person being sponsored wait like a month before to get their documents? or can the medical/background check documents be obtained at any time? -- Medical will stay valid for one year, so better doing it just before submission and CIC recommends to have the police clearance done with in 3 months before the submission of the application.

You recommend I send in the original(Japanese) police clearance along with the translated version correct? Also does the police clearance have to be from a CIC authorized place as well? If so where can I find the locations them?

1. In my case, I am a PR sponsoring my spouse who lives in Japan currently. I live here as well but will be residing in Canada at the time of application.
As you said the medical has to be done by a doctor authorized by CIC. So that means my spouse has to come to Canada to get the medical done. How does that work for most people? I mean if we are sending in the application which can take up to a year or something, does that mean my spouse has to stay in Canada until the application arrives?  - I think, she can do the medical anywhere as long as she mentions the visa processing office correctly and accurately. I recommend doing the medical in Canada for inland application. Once you do the medical and file for PR, you don't have to worry unless CIC asks you to do it again, which is less likely.

Medical can only be done by a Designated Medical Practitioner authorized by CIC.  They are located all over the world.  Here is a link to the list of those available in Japan.

You must submit the original police clearance along with a translation done by a certified translator.  As long as they are certified as a translator in the country where they work, it will be fine.  Read the Region Specific Guide for Japan.  It will help you.

Hello dream99,

Regarding your question 2 "background check translation":

I am Japanese, am being sponsored in Family Class, and obtained my Japanese background check through Japanese Consolate in Vancouver. Based on my experience, you don't have to do the translation because the police certificate issued by National Police Agency in Japan is already written in Japanese, English, French, German and Spanish.

The envelope which holds the police certificate clearly tells you NOT to open the envelope; it has to be VOs who open the envelope, but not the applicants.
