I got an email from Carol. She got some of the papers I sent her back; the explanation was the general "they don't think she will go home at the end of the visit" spiel. Also, that they didn't have enough information about Ray and I. I don't know what more I could have sent. I gave them the info they had listed: mainly financial as I figured they wanted to know if we could take care of her expenses while she was here. I think I flubbed up a bit on the letter of invitation, and maybe a bit on the intinerary. But, I don't really see anyway they could be convinced that she would go home...she's a student, no job, no husband, kids, house, land etc.

She said she felt badly since they had made her wait two and a half hours, and she saw other what she described as "rich" Dominicans getting their visas. She sort of felt out of her league...poor kiddo. Totally unfair I still think. Thanks...Arlette

Arlette,
Don't feel like it is your fault with the invitation letter. If they wanted to deny Carol, they would deny her, no matter what sort of info or proof you sent in.
When my bf got his visitors visa, the letter my parents sent was only about a page and didn't give great detail about the itinerary. They had the basic dates but we didn't have any flight records or anything like that.

The only reason I think my bf got the visa is because I live here in DR, so I also gave proof that I would be returning, and therefore I wouldn't be a reason for him to remain in Canada. And also, my parents gave their proof of financial support which was far beyond what would be required for a trip. If the financial proof is only a few thousand dollars, they probably don't see that as sufficient because there isn't much excess beyond being able to purchase the flight and some living expenses while there.

I've also heard of ppl who were denied the first time they applied but received the visa the second time. But I think a lot of it is luck of the draw. Of course rich dominicans are going to be approved more because they are the ones who own businesses, cars, houses, lots of money in the bank... etc... but it is not only the rich dominicans who get the visas. My bf comes from a humble background, but because of the reasons I mentioned to you before, I believe he received the visitors visa. He did only get a single entry visa so it would be interesting to see if we applied again if he would receive it again.... I would hope so since he proved that he returned the last time, but it really is luck of the draw with whose table your application lands on...

I hope one day Carol is able to visit you at your home.

Tink23 and Arlette,

These Days, Itīs hard to to understand Visa Officers. Hope things work out better next time.

BTW, I am applying for a Visitor Visa this month and I am not really sure how I would do since I have a FSWP Process taking place. I spoke to the embassy personnel and they say I can apply... I am organizing a Trade Mission so, I might get lucky to get one-.

Thanks SFD and Tink,
It just seems that there has to be a better way than basically just profiling people. It's very discriminatory.

I don't think Carol will try again...not in the near future. It was a traumatic and emotional experience for both of us. I so believed there was a chance and we both looked forward to it. Well, I'll just have to visit DR to see her.

BTW SFD, What is FSWP? I don't understand a lot of this forum...lol
I hope you can get the visa you need as well.

God Bless, Arlette
