Hi
I am a Canadian mother with a daughter born in the US who is 20 months old. She has an US passport already but I would like to move back to Canada ASAP. Is she allowed to move to Canada before I apply for her citizenship and wait out the process while in Canada or do I have to do it before I leave. I don't plan on travelling right away so I can wait to change her passport when i receive her citizenship card. Also she has a florida birth certificate and a US passport does that effect her being considered a canadian citizen?
1. She would probably be admitted as a visitor. But without the proof of citizenship, she will not be able to get provincial health care, without paying.
2. As she is less than 2, you can apply for a limited validity Canadian passport, with proof that you have submitted the application for proof of citizenship. see:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/certif.asp3. You should know that you will probably have to show proof of custody at the border and the ability to remove the child from the US.
