Hello;
My son, a Canadian citizen, is applying to sponsor his new wife to Canada.  They have paid the fees and sent in the paperwork, and are now awaiting, hopefully, approvals.
In the meantime, he has been invited to apply for a grant as an emerging author/artist (he has one book published already, and this grant would greatly help him to work on another).  Would this be considered "social assistance"?  He would love to take advantage of this grant, but in absolutely no way would want to jeopardize the application for PR for his wife.  The people in charge of the grants are unsure, and we haven't been able to get through to anyone at CIC to ask.  The deadline to apply is coming up soon, so your help would be very much appreciated.
Many thanks.
