Hi All,

Here is the situation. I entered Canada two and half years ago to start my M.Sc. education in Montreal, Quebec. After one year I applied for permanent residency through Quebec skilled worker program, I got my CSQ and then applied for Federal in April 2010. I completed my education in May 2010 and I was in Montreal seeking for a job till August 2010 but I did not find a good job so finally I accepted an offer of admission from University of Waterloo in Ontario for PhD, so I moved to Waterloo in September 2010.

Unfortunately two days ago when I went to land in Niagara Falls border, the officer was not satisfy about my future intent to reside in quebec and reported me and issued the Entry For Further Examination IMM 5396. So, I need to be there this Tuesday.

I am really really worried and have no idea what will happen there. Do they let me to convince them or they will just let me know about my refusal?

Is there anybody who have heard or had such an experience? Please help!

Thank you very much indeed.

If you manage to convince them that you will move back to Quebec when you finish your PhD I suppose you are ok.  If not, you can apply for your PR again through the Ontario PNP, see http://www.ontarioimmigration.ca/en/pnp/OI_PNPSTUDENTS_PHD.html

You could not prove intent to reside in Quebec; I believe you are going on Tuesday for an admissibility hearing (not sure though). It is best to carry with you all evidence that proves beyond reasonable doubt, your intention to settle in Quebec - though things would have been made easier if you landed in Quebec but anyways the deed is done.

I think Leon or PMM had continually stressed the need to have a history of job applications, search for apppartments etc in the province just in case.

 @ Maziar,

I have the same situation like you. I have completed my masters here in Quebec. I received my CSQ at Feb. 2011 and submitted my application to Buffalo at March 2011. I am living in Quebec more than three years. Currently I am working in company as a Software Engineer here in Quebec. But I am highly intend to go for PhD as I have already ensure my funding in a top university at Ontario.  If I move to Ontario will it affect my PR application. Can I use my new address at Ontario. It will be very helpful for me if you can suggest me something please. I am really worried.

To avoid problems, you should land in Quebec and use a Quebec address for your PR card.

Hi Maziar,

try to convince them, I'm sure you will be able to show some evidence. At least, tell them you will spend first courses year in Ontario and then return back to work part time and visit ontario occasionally.

let us know what happened with you
