My partner and I are in the process of immigrating to Quebec. Well, at least that's our plan. One of us is an American citizen and the other one overstayed after tourist visa expired. We both live in the US. We have already applied but were told but Quebec government that one of us needs to submit a copy of a valid work permit or current visa that allows one of to stay here legally. The problem is that like I said, one of us overstayed in the US after his tourist visa expired, therefore there is no valid or current work permit/visa to show them. By the way, we are doing this on our own and not using a lawyer.

We would greatly appreciate if one of you guys already living in Canada has gone through this and can give us some advice. Or maybe a place we can get more info on this.

I am afraid but i guess your overstaying will be an issue when they will ask for police certificate.

Its better if your partner apply as a single applicant & later on you can get married once she is through

hope it helps
