Right now I'm gathering info on trying to get a CSQ for Quebec. The main problem I'm running into is that my degree doesn't seem to be listed on any of their lists, or the online tests*?

I graduated from an American university with a 4-year degree in Advertising and Marketing, with a minor in East Asian Languages and Literature (Japanese).

The list has 'Business Management' or 'Business Management and Administration'. They're close, but not exact, which is why I'm wary about how many points I can obtain from it.
Does anyone know the proper title and/or amount of points I would receive? Also, I'm assuming that having a minor doesn't allot me any extra points?

* Or perhaps I'm missing it? Wink

Professional experience - Around two years professional advertising/marketing experience. 2 years as an ESL teacher (English-Japanese).

The online test is hard to say. Since I don't know what to put as my degree, it varies between passing and failing. The 'Business Administration' gives me 12 points (putting me at 60 points), whereas anything else has me at 48 points (and 55 is the pass mark, I believe?)

I speak I'd say high-beginner French. I can read a newspaper, but my speaking/listening isn't there yet.

I have a boyfriend who lives in Canada. He'd be willing to sponsor me, but since we've been doing LDR for a while and could not live together, we can't file for common-law.

since we are not sure about the categorisation for ur workexperience, i think it will b better for u to plan with those areas which u are sure of which to me i think u can still do more on ur french so as to get more points. can u pls provide a break down of this 48 ( perhaps u might av underscore urself)
Quebec selection process is a coplex 3-stage one
1) Employability stage: This is a pre-screening stage in which applicants must have up to 42points in 6areas viz: education, age, Language, prior visit, offer of employment, education/ trainning. any application with less than 42points will b rejected without further processing
2) 2nd pre-screening stage: Here applicants will undergo second review with all factors on d selection grid except for adaptability.  applicants must be able to increase their points from 42 to a minimum of 49 to advance to the next stage
3)Selection stage: this is d final stage. which checks for adaptability. any one who is able to get up to 55points from stage -2 will b issued a CSQ without any interview. while those who have 49points ans above but whose point is less than 55 will b given an opportunity to attend a selection interview where they will have to prove that they deserve the 6-ponits that is at stake under adpterbility.
The onus is now on u to look any any of the areas in which u can improve on so that ur points can get to 49.. Hope this helps

Sure thing. Here is a break-down of my points.

Education
Undergraduate diploma attesting to 3 or more years of full-time studies   10 points

Experience
24 to 35 months    6 points

Age
18 to 35 years of age    16 points

French Language
Listening - high beginner 3 points
Speaking - high beginner 3 points

English language

Listening - advanced 3 points
Speaking - advanced 3 points

Stay in Quebec 0 points

Family in Quebec
Potentially 3 points? I have a boyfriend that lives in Quebec that I am moving to be with. However, since we are not married, I'm not sure about this. I could easily get documentation that proves that we are a legitimate couple.

Financial self-sufficiency 1 point

That brings me to 45 points. The main problem is my training. Marketing/Advertising are not listed as-is on there. I would argue that my degree is a lot like 'business management' (section B - 12 points), but I don't know if I could put that down or not?
My minor in college was translation (section C - 6 points). However, it was not my major, but my minor. I'm not sure if that makes a difference or not?

I can pass the first screening of 42 points. However, since I only have 45, even with the additional six points, I still can't make the 55 without knowing what my education is considered.

Thanks for all your help, egrace62. Cheesy
