Am I still eligible for OHIP if I temporarily leave Ontario?

You may be out of the province for up to 212 days in any 12-month period and still maintain your Ontario health insurance coverage provided that you continue to make Ontario your primary place of residence.

To maintain eligibility for OHIP coverage you must be an eligible resident of Ontario. This means that you must :

have an OHIP-eligible citizenship/immigration status; and
be physically present in Ontario for 153 days in any 12-month period; and
be physically present in Ontario for at least 153 days of the first 183 days immediately after establishing residency in the province; and
make your primary place of residence in Ontario.
If you will be out of the province for more than 212 days in any 12-month period, please refer to the Longer Absences from Ontario fact sheet.

Kanamen is right, according to the rules, you should still do your waiting period.  If you lie and say you were in ON the whole time, you are trying to cheat the system.  They might ask you why you did not apply for your OHIP card after 3 months, especially with a pregnant wife.  They might want to see a lease for the time you have been in Canada and some other evidence that you have really been in ON but even if you get away with it and get your OHIP card, if they find out later that you lied, it is possible that they will want you to pay back whatever they have paid for you while you weren't supposed to have OHIP in the first place.  When you try to cheat the system, you risk being caught.

LEON & COLLEAGUES THANKS A LOT ... I AM MAKING MY OPTIONS NOW THANKS  A LOT ALL... AND JUST I WOULD LIKE TO GET SOME INFO ON MY LAST OPTION:

IF I LAND ALONG WITH MY WIFE IN TORONTO IN 1ST WEEK OF AUG  AND AFTER  APPLYING HEALTH CARD CAN I SEND MY WIFE BACK HOME UNTIL WE  GET OUR HEALTH CARDS ... (AFTER 3 MONTHS SHE WILL BE BACK TO CANADA NOV ? IS THIS POSSIBLE OR SHE SHOULD BE PRESENT IN TORONTO IN HER WAITING PERIOD AS WELL)

Guys, How about such a situation where the principal applicant land, does the formality of landing move back and at a later stage when the baby is born to his pregnant wife add the newcomers form to CIC.

Will this case work?

In case he has to return to Canada to sponsor his child and wife again, can he sponsor by submitting the documentation from Canada and come back again until the approval is granted?

or should he inform CIC, delay the visas on Passport, wait until the baby is born and resubmit all the documents as required.

I remember a case of a man having landed on his PR visa while his wife was too pregnant to fly.  Later when she had the baby, he notified the visa office to re-issue the visa for the wife as well as a new visa for the baby and they said it was not a problem.

Other people had sent their passports while the wife was very pregnant and had gotten their visas but not landed.  Later they wanted to add the baby and the visa office said sorry, visas have already been issued, you should have read the documents when you got the passport requests and should have asked to wait and now it is too late, your visas are invalid because you have a new family member and you will have to apply again from scratch.

So.. it depends on the visa office.  If you are in this situation, it is best to notify your visa office about the due date as soon as possible so they are informed about your situation.
