Q8 in the form for TRV

Hi
My student visa got expired but I have a valid work permit which allows me to stay in canada.
I need to apply for new visa TRV which i will do at buffalo. 2 questions:

1. Not having a valid Canadian visa as of now, can i go in person to Buffalo (I have US visa) and come back? Remember I do have valid work permit which allows me to stay in canada. NOt sure about going to US and returning to Canada w/o visa? Alternate way is to mail the application to buffalo but that takes time.

2. In Question 8 of the TRV form- (it asks for my status iin the country where I a applying), what should I fill up? Definitely I have nothing to do with US citizenship/PR/business or any other option given n that question. The nearest I can think of can be business as I have US tourist/business visa.

PLs suggest. Any help is appreciated
