Purchasing a Car

Hello everyone:
What is the best option buying car here in United States before you go to Manitoba Ca Or purchasing
a car when I arrive in Manitoba which is more convenient in saving money? I'll be driving from New York?
It's my first time to drive there too. Does my drivers license valid in entering the border of Canada?

What I understand, you can drive here if you have US license, but cars, you can fidn a better deal in US than in Canada at this time because of the economy differnce. But it also depends what kind of car you are looking for.
