we are a family of 3: My husband principal applicant, our son and me. Only my husband will go to canada and then he will sponsor us later when he'll find a job.( my son and I just passed the medical)
I have a good job here in my home country, so I have enough money to support my self, take care of my son and eventually send money to canada if my husband is there without job. I want to know if my husband still need 16 500 can dollars as proof of fund for family of 3 or does he need to have only 10000?. will they accept my own bank account and job certificate as proof that I don't depend financially on my husband? Or should I transfer my money to my husband account so he will have 16500 can dollars to show. i hope I am clear enough, english is not my first language. thank you for your comments

My understanding is that he has to show 16500 but he can show that using your account. They want the family to have at least 16500 so the person in Canada will meet his/her obligation to the family, no matter where they are.

So, he must still show 16500 but he can show that with your account as well. This is what I read on here. I didn't have to show this so I haven't thought too much into it.

BTW, you English is good.

Thank you. it will be better for us if I can use my own bank account. I was concerned by the fact that if I transfer money to my husband's account, the immigration office could get suspicious and think that he had  just borrowed the money. I think we will send both bank accounts and my job/salary certificate. actually, the main reason I won't accompany my husband to canada is for me to keep my job and support him until he finds a good job in canada. Once again thank you for your comments

i think if you are not accompanying your husband to canada as a dependent at this stage, then the proof of funds from your account may or may not be accepted... i am not sure.. that is why i said may or may not. someone else can confirm this.

but of course you have a workaround. if your husband is yet to start his application process, you can safely transfer the funds from your account to his account because he still has plenty of time left. how come?... lets suppose your husband starts the application process today. it will take around one month for your husband to prepare initial application and send to CIO. after that, CIO will reply in around 2 months. after that, you will have 120 days (4 months) to send your full application to your local CHC. so, still 6 to 7 months to go before he sends his full application to local CHC. which means, if you transfer funds from your account to your husbands account now, he will be able to submit a bank statement of 6 months with his application.

Just a little correction to the amount : it should be 16680 for 3 persons.

Good Luck

thank you for the replies. OK let's say 17000 ca dollars. My hsband needs that money in his account. But he is not at the beginning of the process: We had the medical request 2 weeks ago and we did our medical exams last week. Everything else have been sent ( birth certificate, FBI, state certificate, RPR fees etc..). So I think they can ask for proof of funds any time. For my husband to have that money on his account now I should transfer around 9000 now and I am afraid if they see that much money transfered at the same time, they will get suspicious about that. maybe I should start transfering some amount every week and maybe everything will be OK by the time they ask for proof of fund.

well, when you transfer it, keep the receipt or statements after the transfer from your account so you can also show that it comes from a family account.

Hello All,

When I showed my proof of funds, I just took a letter from the Bank clarifying the final balance in the Account. Of course it go to be in Bank's Original Letter Headed paper, that's all. It never shows up where the money come from, from when you maintaining this amount etc etc..

Regards,

I think sometimes they just need a bank statement saying how much money you have but sometimes (according to some topics in this forum) they want the last 3 months activity on your account. I know and the visa office knows also that you can borrow money the day before issuance of the bank statement ( or the day before landing) and then you give the money back the day after issuance ( or landing). I know peope who did that for visitor visa. sometimes it's OK but sometimes they get caught when they ask for more details...But keeping the receipt of transactions seems a very good idea to me, thank you

Depends on Local Visa office's discretion.

They could be content with just the bank certification letter; or insist for original bank statement.
In most cases, bank statement would do better (than the certification letter).

Best is to include both, if possible - IO cannot ask for any thing more! --- also it is quite easy to get the letter from most of the banks!

Cheers Boltz
