Our child is dual US and Canadian without any proof of Canadian Citizenship.  We had no problems as the US birth certificate had the Canadian parents name on it.  Once in Canada we applied for Citizenship Certificate as the process can take 6-7 monts.

My child is a dual citizen too. We wanted her to be in Canada soon. So we were told at the embassy we could apply for both, her citizenship certificate and passport at the same time. Only that her passport would be valid for only one year... after that it needs to be renewed. We got her passport already, but the citizenship certificate will take months.
