Anybody who has recently (within one month) applied for a visitor visa at New York City consulate general? How long does it take to get back your passport? I plan to go there to submit my application. According to their website, submit the application in person seems will speed up the processing of the visa. I plan to travel to Canada on Aug. 13, hopefully I will get my passport on time.

Hi,

As far as I know their processing time is 30days but I read on the other thread one guy got his visitor's visa approved after 38-48 days. They will only return your passport if you withdraw your applications or it's an emergency case (a matter of life & death I guess)

I have applied to the New York office through regular mail on June 27 and still got no reply. Today is July 18 and I need to go to Toronto on July 22 to present my research paper at a conference. I sent them about 15 emails the last 10 days and they havent replied to any. Anyone has any idea on what to do? Shall I go to their office (I couldnt find a way to set up an appointment) tomorrow morning and make an enquiry? I called the embassy and they said that without an appointment I wont be allowed to enter by the guards.

It is ridiculous because my collaborator applied 5 days after I applied and he applied by directly visiting the office and he got the visa yesterday.

Also I need to go to Prague, Czech Republic on August 20, so I need to apply for the Schengen visa too. So if I dont get the Canada visa on time, how can I get all my documents back from them without further processing?

Please help Sad(   Any ideas?

Hi I'm in exact same situation mailed though express mail on June 28. I have an appointment scheduled on Aug 13 in Canada. Considering the delay from other threads not sure if I can make it now. Sad

Did your collaborator apply in person? If so even for in-person did it took 15 days?

So were you able to walk in NY Canada embassy or get any interview appointment?

Keep your updates posted

Yes, my friend went in person and applied. There is a phone number to contact the Canadian Embassy in New York and they just have no service for visa applicants. It is ridiculous. I cant even get them to check if they got my package. Furthermore, they say that the only way to come and check my application status is to schedule a meeting through emailing NewYork-im-enquiry @ international.gc.ca. Trust me, I have sent numerous emails to that address the last 10 days and didnt get a single reply. Its funny, before I submitted the application, I emailed them asking for visa processing times and they emailed me back within a day. There they also mentioned it takes approximately 30 days for both mailed and handed-in applications. These guys are so unreliable. I am supposed to present research work in conference, and these visa officers just killed my prospects. I got into the conference on June 26 and applied on June 27. How early could I apply? The immigration officers should prioritize applications by dates, or at least separate conference or special situation visas from tourist visa applications, which they dont. It totally sucks, so unprofessional.

I am still thinking of going there in person tomorrow if time permits, or I will go there on Monday and see whats going on. Maybe they have lost my I-94, I-20, passports everything, in which case I will have nothing to do.

Hi,

Try to send them a Case Specific Enquiry to CHC-NY the link is here: https://dmp-portal.cic.gc.ca/cicemail/intro-eng.aspx?mission=new york. Fill-up the form completely with your Full Name, Birthdate, Client ID or File # and write your brief reason of enquiry. Hope this helps  Smiley

I dont even know my client ID or file no. How do you know these for a mailed application?

The link you provided works, but it takes to a SPAM check page where you will have to write characters from a box. No matter how many times you write the correct letters and submit, it takes you to a web page with a runtime error Sad

Do you know if going to the embassy directly will help? I will take all the photocopied documents that I have

Hi,

Even if you don't have Client# or File# that's ok, it's optional. Try to download mozilla firefox, I used it when my IE showing the same error.

I have no idea if they will entertain you personally about your applications since you submitted it thru mail, but you can try. Is your place nearby the CHC-NY?
