Process for American girlfriend moving to Canada. Where do I even start?

Hello everyone,

I am sure this question has been asked on this forum a million times, but scanning through I am unable to find the situation that I am currently in.

I am a Canadian who has recently graduated from University in the US, and my girlfriend (who I met at school) and I had to separate for the time being as she is from New York.  We both are trying to figure out how to live together again, and she wants to move here to Ontario.  I have called VISA offices multiple times with zero help, and we do not know what steps to take. 

She is a University grad, and has 2 years of a reputable business career under her belt, as well as a hefty savings if this helps clarify the situation or brings to light any other ideas.  Does she need to have a job offer? What forms do we need to complete?  Is there any advice anyone can give me on this situation?

the people i live with here, the lady's son was in your shoes and it was not an easy process.  first they refuse her as an american, to cross the border to come with him as they said she wouldn't leave canada after her stay.   so they got married and the following day met the same immigration officer who finally allowed her to stay, it took 5-6 yrs of processing her papers correctly in order for her to have permanent residency, and she have gotten 2 kids since, which family allowance is still owed.   its a little bit of a ordeal and its good to get things done right but getting help will be difficult. (it was for her anyway) first time they allowed her medicare and all they never told her and it expired without her knowledge, so she had to repay and re-apply.    you really have to make sure you check on everything.
