Procedures in applying for Spouse Visa

Hello all,
I am currently a grad student in U of T. It has been a year since I came to Canada. At the time of visa application I was officially single, but later and before coming to Canada I got married. Now, after a year my wife wants to join me. I would like to know about the process through which I need or she needs to apply for a dependent visa.
Moreover, I need to extend my study permit in a couple of months. Should I mention that my status has changed and my wife wants a visa or is it something she needs to apply individually. I am a little confused about this issue so please help me if you have and knowledge of it or any suggestions.
