I have a simple question which I have seen different answers given when asked previously. I have just gotten my PPR and will be living in Quebec, I have my CSQ. Once I land and have to wait the 3 months before my healthcare gets activated is it a requirement to have private health insurance for this period. I realise it's advisable to have it, but I just would like to know if I don't get it will it have any affect in the future. Thanks!

Just that if you have no health insurance, you pay out from your pocket.  I don't think there are any adverse effect.

No future impact, unless you need healthcare.
Which can cost a lot for the simplest problem. Buy PHI, it really gives peace of mind.
Also be aware that healthcare does not cover all costs, even after the three month waiting period.

We were under the same assumption, however, my husbands employer said otherwise when it comes to the coverage. They indicated if we didn't pay gap insurance (450 for hubby as he went ahead of us, by a month or more) and 1110 for myself and the 2 kids - which covers us like OHIP for 3 months. Otherwise, if we had not taken this they could request at the end of the 3 months, a blood test for each of us and refuse any pre-existing conditions.

So while it appears OHIP doesn't care, for whatever reason the employer did.
