Just curious if anyone knows how big an impact previous relationships have on a spousal sponsorship.

I have been in a relationship with my fiance for two years and would like to marry her and sponsor her to Canada.

I do not want to live full time in the Philippines.

I am 57  and have had a 24 year marriage,  then a 5 year common law relationship and my last relationship prior to meeting my fiance in 2009 was a common law relationship for 3 years.

We have kept a record of everything since we met,  e mails, phone bills, money transfers, plane tickets etc etc.

I have no sponsorship issues, I am retired and have a good income with no criminal background.

Any educated opinions would be much appreciated.

Regards,

Ray

Hi,

No it only complicates things if you have dependent children from the previous relationship, spousal or child support issues, you sponsored the previous person for a Canadian PR, there was spousal abuse issues with police involvement etc..other than that they don't really care.

Lots of people have common law relationships and marriages.

I too was previously married (for 3 months!!) but there were no kids, nor did I sponsor the girl or anything, nice clean and smooth non contested divorce.
